Tips to Avoid Flight Delayed Missed Connection!
A traveler’s worst nightmare is a missed flight connection can often result in unplanned additional travel expenses for lodging and food as well as unnecessary stress for all members of the travel party.
The mishap can be weather related or because of unforeseen airline delays some of the times, and other times it could be due to poor travel planning, which can avoided by these tips to avoid missing connecting flights:
- Never book a Tight connection:
The basic rule is never to book a connection which is less than 2 hours if case of a domestic flight or less than 3 hours if you are flying overseas, and that too especially if you are traveling with a small kid or persons with disability.
Call the airline to talk to a customer service agent if you can’t find the layover you are looking for on the online booking site.
- Sitting in the front:
You will be able to get off the aircraft fast if the closer you sit by the front door, and get to your next gate.
The airlines have mastered the pre-boarding process, but everyone gets pushy and wants to get off quickly when it comes to deplaning. Don’t expect much sympathy as everyone has a reason to rush out, so just make sure you get out as soon as the doors open after landing.
- Keep your family together:
It is critical after landing for everyone in your family to leave the plane with their belongings and that too as soon as possible to get to the next gate.
It could easily take more than ten minutes to get everyone together if you are sitting in separate places on the aircraft especially a large one. This extra delay could lead to arriving late to your next gate and miss your next flight.
- Download an airport map:
If you have limited time to go to distant gates or terminals or if the airport you are connecting into is large then make sure you download a copy of your map on your cell phone or print it out a copy map ahead of time which will minimize your chances of wasting time getting lost.
- Ask for help :
Ask the flight’s attendant advice about what to do if you are experiencing a delay after boarding the aircraft, and whether they can arrange some airport shuttle or special escort so to transport you and family members accompanying as fast as possible to the next gate.
